Help! My Computer is So Slow! By Jason Siemens
I really like most board games. In the days of my misspent youth, I really got a kick out of Monopoly, Risk and other such diversions. However, one thing I could not tolerate was a game that involved an hourglass. I remember playing Pictionary as a child. I would, inevitably, draw words that 1) I didn’t know the meaning of or 2) were absolutely impossible to express with a pen and paper. On top of that I had an hourglass full of sand telling me, grain after grain, “You should’ve stuck with checkers, buddy…”

The PC goes Low-Carb
By David Achilli
Thin Computing delivers the productivity people need, at a lower cost than traditional methods, all without compromising security or manageability. Thin Computing replaces the PC with a Thin or Zero Client, making it easier for IT to manage user desktops by moving their complexity to the datacenter. Analysts agree that this approach improves the reliability and security of information, dramatically lowers IT costs, reduces energy consumption, and is far better for the environment.

Windows 7 is Here By Shawn Barker
Ticomix makes it a constant practice to make our clients aware of a new availability, but we only recommend it when it makes sense. For example, take the Windows Vista operating system release. We never recommended to anyone to upgrade to that operating system. It didn’t make sense. There was no real business value to implementing it.
On October 22nd, Microsoft released their new operating system, Windows 7, to the public. Again, we are looking at this operating system and evaluating it for our recommendation. Once again, we feel that the majority of our clients should not perform a mass upgrade to this new product. However, we do feel that there is more value in this operating system than there was in Windows Vista. We have several test units in production. I am happy to report that this operating system is not only more stable, but it also seems to require fewer resources.
If you would like a feature to feature comparison of XP Professional vs. Windows 7 Professional, you can click here to a pdf that has that.

End of Year Thoughts
By Tim Ancona
Wow! Another year has flown by! So much has happened in 2009. I’m incredibly thankful that we have thus far withstood the poor economy and have not had to lay anyone off at Ticomix. In fact, our networking business grew substantially in 2009 and we were able to acquire US Software in September. In 2009, we saw incredible growth in our BulletProof data backup solution and launched our Hosting business. We have already had many clients move their infrastructure to our data structure where we provide them with computing resources. This has led to lower capital and operating costs for those companies.
