5 Things to Remember in the New Year
Created by Tim Ancona on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 - 7:10pm2011 has been a year of transition and continued growth in the technology industry, but then, so is every year these days. The question then is not just “what has changed” but, even more important, “how do these changes relate to my business” and “how should I respond?”
Cutting Through the SaaS Hype
Created by Brian Huber on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 - 1:18pmThe premise (no pun intended) that the SaaS architecture somehow magically spurs innovation in a way that premise-based solutions can't is a specious one.
FrontRange Discovery 9.2 Now Available
Created by Brian Huber on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 - 6:57pmKey highlights of FrontRange Discovery 9.2 include:
The "Favorites" Tab in HEAT 9.5
Created by John Manna on Monday, November 21, 2011 - 7:40pmWe are often asked “What’s the best reason to upgrade to HEAT 9.5x?” The answer often depends on one’s role in the support process and personal preferences. For many, it may be the Call Record grid that is docked in Call Logging, which allows for a simultaneous view of a single Call Record and the complete list of Call Records in that Call Group.
Update available to HEAT 9.5
Created by Brian Huber on Friday, September 16, 2011 - 12:57pmWhile this would appear to be a very minor release based on the version (9.5.2), there are actually some very significant differences in the release. These include some major structural changes to HSS, the BPAM service and the HEAT installation directories, as well as some minor enhancements and a large number of fixes.

Tips for Using Roles in ITSM Enterprise 7
Created by Brian Huber on Thursday, September 8, 2011 - 4:57pmITSM Enterprise 7 consolidates the functionality that was previously available in two areas: Security Groups and Roles. The concept of a separate "Security Group" is done away with and the Role definition now contains all settings related to security. Well and good, right? The catch is that the interface is a bit different from what many ITSM administrators are used to, and there are a lot of different areas that aren't necessarily intuitive. The basic steps are:
1. Create the new role in the Web Admin interface.
Update available to ITSM Enterprise 7
Created by Brian Huber on Friday, September 2, 2011 - 2:32pmITSM7.0.2.2 Patch (version 7.0.2 Build 221) can be installed on top of:
- ITSM 7.0.2 Gold (version 7.0.2 Build 127)
- ITSM 7.0.2 Gold (version 7.0.2 Build 127) + ITSM 7.0.2.1 Patch (version 7.0.2 Build 166)
Note: you cannot upgrade to a new localized version if the original install was not already a localized install. In other words, if the 7.0.2 install was English, you will not be able to use the patch to upgrade to 7.0.2.2 German or 7.0.2.2 French.
Cover Your ODBC
Created by Randall Reed on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 - 5:40pmWe visit many customer sites and find that the ODBC connection to their HEAT system is not as secure as it could be. There are legitimate reasons some times, for example being in a hybrid environment like MS SQL and Novell, or using modules like HSS, which require SQL authentication. However if your group is in a pure Microsoft environment, meaning your HEAT database uses MS SQL and everyone logs into the network via Microsoft Active Directory, and you still use SQL authentication, then this tip is for you.
